Writer's Block: The winning ticket
What would be your first purchase if you won the lottery?

First thing that popped to mind was a house. I've had a recent bad experience with it. Truth be told, however… that ain't a very good first thing, as it has a million debts attached to it and I should first get used to the quantity.

Second thing that came to mind: I can finally start my business! Yes! Yes! That is actually my favorite choice, as it would ensure that the winning would be permanent. That ain't a valid answer for the question though.

So, the true, actual, honest, most probable answer is: I'd travel. A LOT. I'd go to all corners that have people that I want to meet - and that means about half hundred stops in 3 to 5 countries - plus places I want to know - Peru, Egypt (yes!), Namibia, Kopenhagen, Wellington, Easter Island, Tierra del Fuego. That would eat a reasonable piece of the ticket but, hey!, isn't it what winning the lottery is all about?

After that, I'd then use the remaining - which is supposed to be 70%+ - to actually start the business as above. Buying a house? Sure. Not with the ticket money, no. How could I truly value the house if so?

Writer's Block: Connecting the dots
How do you feel about standardized tests? Do you think they accurately indicate a student's knowledge or ability?

Standardized tests provide estimates and capping. This is what the people who are making them want. It sure sucks being treated as a number, but c'est comme ça.
